- The 38-gun French frigate Pallas was cruising off Cape Frehel, St. Malo, when she was sighted by H.M. ships Fairy and Harpy on the morning of 5th February 1800. After manoeuvring into position, action commenced at about 1.00pm. and continued for two hours until Pallas decided to make a run for it. Bearing away to the north-east pursued by the two sloops, three other Royal Navy vessels joined the chase in the late afternoon and all caught up with Pallas to participate in a night action which resulted in her eventual surrender to the Harpy at 1.30am. As a fine new frigate of 1,030 tons, Pallas was a valuable addition to the Royal Navy and was christened Pique as her own was already in use within the fleet.
