  • Sedgwick (1785–1873), born in Dent in Yorkshire, held the Woodwardian professorship of geology at the University of Cambridge from 1818 onwards. He is also memorialized in the Sedgwick Club, the undergraduate geological society in Cambridge. The earliest work in this collection is "On the Classification of the Strata Which Appear on the Yorkshire Coast" (1826).
