The Hand Camera Postal Club Portfolio, original title with inset gelatin silver print, 20 mounted photographs (various processes, including carbon and bromide prints), specially printed labels with manuscript details of titles and technical details pasted to verso of mounts, two notebooks title in gilt on upper cover including hand written contributions from various members of the club, maroon cloth portfolio inside green cloth slip case, folio, [c.1904], sold as periodicals (5)

  • The Practical and Pictorial Photographer is a complete set. The editorial in the December 1907 issue confirms this to be the last issue of a journal which began circulation in 1890 (entitled Practical Photographer and later published as The Practical and Junior Photographer. In April 1906 the periodical gained its present title and the first issue states that "hitherto the "lion's share" of our paper has been given to technical rather than pictorial matters. Henceforth it is our intention to divide our pages and attention, as evenly as maybe, between the pictorial and technical sides of photograph."

    R.R. Rawkins was Honourary Secretary of The Hand Camera Postal Club (based in Canonbury and then Tufnell Park in 1904). This is a scarce survivor from the club whose members were few.
