An 1854 Pattern Coldstream Guards Officer's Levee Sword
82cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, Number 22368 for 1878, etched with scrolls, foliage, crowned VR cypher, regimental badge, ten battle honours to Sevastopol and owner's motto and crest, regulation steel gothic hilt incorporating regimental badge, wire bound fish skin grip, in its steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

    He served in Egyptian campaign of 1884-87.
    As a major he commanded the 1st Battalion in the Boer War and was awarded the DSO. He retired in 1909, and re-enlisted at the outbreak of WWI. He commanded the 52nd Infantry Brigade and in March 1915 was appointed Brigadier General, and created CMG.
