96cm blade with hatchet point by Wilkinson Pall Mall London numbered 10391 for 1860, etched at the forte with scrolls and maker's proof mark, regulation steel hilt pierced and applied in brass with scrolls, studs and crowned regimental cypher, chequered brass pommel, wire bound fish skin grip, in its brass mounted steel scabbard with two suspension rings, complete with crimson faced buff leather liner.

  • Although this type of sword is generally refered to as the 1874 pattern, Robson refers to a Royal Horse Guards sword with hatchet pointed blade which can be dated to 1860. Which is presumably this sword. See Swords of the British Army, revised edition, p. 139.
