The Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry Cavalry, Officer's Helmet c1877-1914
A superb example, the German silver skull with brass trim and gilt metal oak spray spine, similar oak and laurel spray frontal band. The all gilt frontal plate shows the Imperial crown over a rococo shield, this displaying the three lions and cadency label for the Duchy of Lancaster, the shield flanked with laurel and oak sprays. Plume holder and base in gilt brass complete with a white horse hair plume, this with a large gilt rose finial. Copper gilt rose pattern side ornaments and a leather lined brass chin chain. Quilted silk sweatband and lining (part perished).
