Newton -/ Pinxit/ Miniature Painter in ordinary/ to their magisties -/ 6 Argle Street -/ 1832/ NB. copied from a picture painted/ by the late Mr Hoppner with/ a few alterations -; together with two portrait miniatures of Dr Raine and Reverend Barker by the same hand: the former, seated in a red upholstered chair and wearing dark grey coat and oval spectacles; the latter, wearing black robes, white bands and powdered physical wig. The former, signed on the reverse and dated The Late Dr. Raine./ W. J. Newton/ Pinxit/ Miniature Painter in/ ordinary to their magisties/ 6 Argyle Street/ 1832./ NB. a posthumous work; the latter, signed on the reverse and dated R. Barber/ W. J. Newton/ Pinxit/ Miniature Painter in/ ordinary to their magisties/ 6 Argyle Street/ 1832. NB. a posthumous portrait/ R Barber Sent born 4th Jan 1745 5/6./ died 31st Dec 1819.-/ RB.; all three miniatures gilt-mounted within glazed wooden box frames with velvet linings.
