An Archaeological Revival agate intaglio bangle and an early 19th century enamel fob watch
The hinged bangle inlaid with a rectangular panel, intaglio carved to depict Bacchus carried on a goat's back, holding a goblet and thyrsus with bacchantes in attendance in a cannetille work setting, the fob watch with a circular silvered dial with black Roman numerals, to scallop shell-shaped gold case with polychrome floral enamel decoration and French sphinx department mark, bangle inner diameter 5.7cm, watch length 6.2cm.     Bacchus was the Greek god of the grape harvest and is often depicted with his followers in scenes with grapes, ewers and cornucopia. The thyrsus, an ivy-entwined staff with pinecone finial, is a symbol of fertility.
