Noel Carter (British, active circa 1823-circa 1837)
A Lady, wearing dress with waist belt and jewel-set belt buckle, white lace collar and chemise, her brunette hair plaited into a knot high at the back of her head, the front parted and curled in ringlets framing her face.
Gilt-mounted on rectangular papier-mâché frame, signed on the reverse and dated N. N. CARTER/ 1823; together with three further portrait miniatures of a Child (American School, circa 1840), within a gilt-metal chased fausse-montre frame; a Lady in Grecian dress (French School, circa 1800), within a gilt-metal mount; and a Gentleman (English School, circa 1780), within a gold bracelet-clasp frame with brooch pin attachment and pendant suspension loop.
