Jewelled gilt 3/4 plate English lever movement, cut and compensated balance, white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, outer minute track with rhombus shaped quarter divisions, blued steel spade hands, subsidiary dial at 6 for running seconds, polished round hinged case with dedication to case back, case stamped 'F.T', dial and movement signed
48mm.

  • The dedication to case back reads 'CAPT P.W.E. JONES, A PERSONAL APPRECIATION OF STERLING WORK FROM P.H.BROWNE, I.E.F. D, 1916-17'.

    I.E.F. D refers to the Indian Expedition Force D which was the largest Indian Army force to serve abroad during WWI. Sent to Mesopotamia in November 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-General Sir John Nixon, they were initially tasked with guarding the British oil installations near Basra and at the end of the war were involved in the capturing of Baghdad from the Ottoman Empire.
