Footnotes

  • The Rolex Submariner, renowned for its robustness, often led a very hard life in the hands of its owners. This example was owned by a professional yachtmaster who purchased the watch new in 1969 as an essential navigation tool in the days before satellite positioning systems. Around 1975 while making adjustments to the rigging a rogue wire broke the bracelet of the watch causing it to go overboard. On recovery it was decided that the cost of repair was prohibitive so a hole was made in the glass and the case filled with oil to be returned to a draw where it has sat since. This watch represents a rare opportunity to acquire a project vintage Rolex Submariner for restoration.
