Footnotes

  • This watch is unusual in that it has both the rare Rolex Commando dial and special hand configuration but without the actual 'Commando' designation.

The Rolex Commando was released to the US market in 1972 for one year only and it is considered a 'stripped down' version of the 1016 Explorer. It was the cheapest model in the entire Rolex catalogue, alongside the boy's size watch. Unlike the Explorer models, it features straight hands, but does retain the same '3, 6, 9' quarters typical of that watch.
