Footnotes

  • First appearing in the early 1960s, the 'exotic' or 'tropical' dial was renamed the 'Paul Newman' by Italian collectors after the American actor wore the watch in promotional posters for the film 'Winning.'

By sinking the subsidiary dials and outer black scale within the creamy opaque dial background, the dial achieves an unusual three-dimensionality. Reference 6263 dials are characterized by the pronounced 'serif' lettering of the Rolex Oyster Cosmograph signature; additionally, the Daytona signature is omitted on dials meant for models with screw-down push buttons such as this reference 6263.

This watch is being sold by the family of the original owner who purchased the watch in the 1970's.
