15-jewel manual wind movement, white dial with luminous filled Arabic numerals, outer minute track, blued steel luminous filled leaf hands, subsidiary dial at 6 for running seconds, case front engraved 'W.H. Bryant 55415 Ch. Ch. N.Z.' and stamped 'W&D' inside, round polished case with screw down back, case back engraved 'killed in action 'Feb. 9th 1918', case and movement signed
35mm.

Footnotes

  • Private Wilfred Hector Bryant, born 6th August 1897, of the 1st Battalion Canterbury Regiment New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was killed in action on the 9th February 1918. He was posthumously awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

    The son of Mr and Mrs C H Bryant of 477 Manchester St Christchurch New Zealand, native of Weston-Super-Mare, England, he was an apprentice cabinet maker before being dispatched to France on the 11th November 1917.

    His grave can be found at the Buttes New British Cemetery, Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
