A bone chess set,
Germany or Central Europe, circa 1830,
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with double spiked galleries, queens of smaller size and with single galleries, bishops with spiked double galleries and domed reeded finials, knights as horses' heads, rooks as domed turrets, pawns with baluster knops on circular turned bases, in a wooden box with a sliding lid,
the king 7.6cm high, the pawn 3.7cm high.
