English, circa 1870,
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings and queens with multi-knopped columns, bishops with split mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with ball finials and "ring" columns,
the king 8.6cm high, the pawn 4.2cm high.
