An early Staunton boxwood and ebony chess set,
J. Jaques London, 1849-50,
the white king stamped: J. Jaques London on the rim of the base, in a papier-mâché Cartonpierre box with a plum coloured velvet lined and gilt-tooled interior, the base lined in blue patterned velvet (restorations to box),
the king 8.6cm (approx. 3½ inches) high, the pawn 4.1cm (approx. 1¾ inches) high.
