one side stained green, the other side left natural, kings with pierced galleries and floral finials, queens with palm frond finials, bishops as pierced mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as slender turrets with flags, pawns with baluster knops and ball finials, in a rosewood, ivory and sadeli work box of sarcophagus shape, Bombay Presidency, circa 1820,
the king 12.5cm high, the pawn 7cm high, the box 25cm wide (2).
