An unusual "Burmese Pattern" ivory chess set,
presumably Canton, early 19th century,
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings and queens with Islamic crescent moon finials, bishops a mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as foliate turrets bearing flags with Islamic crescent moons, pawns with baluster knops,
the king 8.2cm high, the pawn 5cm high.
