A late 19th century singing bird Automaton
A singing bird-in-cage, most probably by Bontems,
circa 1890,
with going-barrel movement, the large bird with grey and white feathered plumage, on brass T bar perch, moving head, beak and tailfeather to paused birdsong, cast gilt floral mound with dressed dried flower heads behind, in gilt square domed cage, the rectangular top boss of pierced form with maiden's heads, further heads to lower corners above Greek style figures dancing, swag ribbon trace hoop details, on hairy lion paw feet, with a key, start/stop underside - 19.1/2in. (49.5cm) high
