A fine James Smith brass compound monocular microscope, English, 1840's,
signed on the foot Jas Smith London, the Lister-limb construction with rack and pinion and lever and calibrated screw focusing, twin turret objective, fully mechanical stage with substage wheel of stops and large plano/concave mirror, raised on twin columns above tripod base, in fitted mahogany case with bench condenser, six drawers containing glass slides, analyser, polariser and separate accessory case with two oculars, combined 1 1/4in and 2/3in objective, 4/10in and 1/4in objectives, two Lierberkuhns, tweezers, live box, stage condenser, forceps and scalpel, the microscope 18in (46cm) high
