signed on the brass ring Edm Culpeper Fet. the turned ivory lid applied with compass rose printed E.C. fecit 1701, brass hour ring engraved with Roman numerals, hinged gnomon engraved Lat 52 42, original compass needle mounted with letter N, paper compass rose printed Edm. Culpeper at ye (sign of the crossed daggers) in Moorefields Lon. 2 1/4in (5.8cm) diameter
