An unusual oval gilt brass universal equinoctial dial, German, circa 1700,
with sprung and silvered hour ring adjusted for latitude by cam and pointer against a latitude scale, strut with weight below (lacking gnomon), compass with cardinal points marked in Latin, hinged plumb bob bracket, 3 1/4 ny 2 1/4in (8 by 5.5cm)

  • For similar dial see Sundials at Greenwich, Hester Higton, cat.no. 115. Similar dials are known signed by Soloman Krigner and it has been suggested that Krigner was not the maker but just an agent in Warsaw for Johann Martin and Johann Willebrand.
