A MacNaughton-patent 10-bore (2 5/8in) 'Lockfast' sidelock hammer gun, no. 1295
Converted from percussion, the action incorporating J. MacNaughton's 'Lockfast' action patent no. 1971 of 5th July 1867, push-forward underlever, non-rebounding sidelocks engraved J.D. Dougall and with some bold foliate-scrollwork, top-tang engraved MacNaughton's Patent Lockfast, well-figured stock (cracked behind top-tang and forward of trigger-guard, cracked and repaired at lower left horn) with engraved steel butt-plate, the rebrowned replacement damascus barrels (by AlexR. Thomson & Son) with game-rib engraved AlexR. Thomson & Son, 95 Princes St., Edinburgh

  • It would appear that this gun was originally built as a percussion gun by J.D. Dougall, and that some time between 1869 and 1875 (when Thomson is recorded on Princes Street), the gun was converted to MacNaughton's Lockfast patent incorporating the original locks, stock and furniture
