A Congolese Throwing Knife
Ngombe, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
With wide flat single-edged blade hooked at the point and with a blunt projection above a short triangular projection on one side, fullered on one side at the forte and incised with notched lines over both sides, the back of the blade on each side with incised line decoration, wooden grip of flattened tapering section bound with an iron strap securing a rattan binding at the base, and wooden pommel turned to form three tiered compressed circles each set with domed brass-headed nails
