Two Chinese Bronze Short Swords (Jian)
The First Mid-Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Yue Culture, The Second Late Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Chu Culture, Both 1770-256 B.C.
In excavated condition, the first with slightly tapering double-edged blade with slender medial line over its entire length on both sides, integral hilt comprising pointed quillon-block cast with a taote design on each side, grip of circular section interrupted by two disc-shaped mouldings, and disc-shaped pommel chased with a band of chevrons around the top; the second of similar form, with blade of flattened diamond section, flat diamond-shaped quillon-block, tapering tubular grip, and flat disc-shaped pommel (2)
