Two Congolese Swords
Yaka And Nzakara, Both Late 19th/Early 20th Century
The first with waisted double-edged blade swelling at the point and with medial line of copper along each side over half its length, both sides with a medial panel of punched and incised decoration, shouldered wooden grip covered with leather secured by plaited copper wire borders, a spherical arrangement of iron and copper bars above, and tall iron pommel of part octagonal section; the second with blade of similar form, pierced with three circular holes and with side-lugs at the forte, wooden grip bound with twisted brass wire, and beaked wooden pommel set with domed brass-headed nails (2)
