The Barrel And Lock By Griffin & Tow, London, Circa 1780, The Stock And Mounts Early 19th Century, Probably Belgian
With barrel flared at the muzzle and signed along the breech flat with long engraved drop-shaped loop at the end, border engraved tang decorated with foliage, signed border engraved rounded lock with safety-catch, figured full stock (some bruising and worming, fore-end with minor split) with chequered grip and fore-end, cheek-piece (old repairs) carved with a frond, iron mounts (some pitting) comprising side-nail plates engraved with lions, butt-plate with a bird on the heel-tang, trigger-guard with urn-shaped finial and engraved with a ram on the bow, vacant silver escutcheon, turned ramrod-pipes, sling loops, and original ramrod with horn tip and iron worm, London proof marks and barrelsmith's mark of Joseph Griffin
