The first with nickel-plated sighted barrel, fluted cylinder, frame and bird's head butt, the frame stamped 'Smith's Patent April 15, 1873 No. 41' on the grooved top-strap, sprung case-hardened arbor-pin, spur trigger, bird's head grips, and retaining most of its nickelling; the second with russet hand-rotated barrels, foliate engraved rounded action, and rounded wooden grips (in poor rust patinated condition, hammer and trigger-guard replaced) (2)
