A Dutch 18-Bore Holster Pistol With Fire-Gilt Mounts
By Oger Leblan Of Maastricht, Circa 1720
With slightly swamped barrel with tapering sighting flat and signed between chiselled foliage at the breech, the latter with short sighting flat, engraved with foliage and stamped thrice with small brass-inlaid marks, probably for Maastricht or Nijmegen, engraved brass-covered tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled lock (cock an old replacement, top jaw and screw missing) with foliage on the tail, moulded figured full stock (fore-end partly replaced, chipped at the butt and behind the lock) carved with foliage behind the barrel tang and with slight swelling with finial en suite at the rear ramrod-pipe, cast and chased brass mounts comprising pierced foliate side-plate involving grotesque masks and a monster-head, vacant escutcheon en suite, spurred pommel with grotesque mask centred on a border of foliage and punched dots, trigger-guard with foliate finial above a grotesque mask, the bow with a Classical portrait bust between foliage, faceted baluster ramrod-pipes, later iron ramrod, and much original gilding (some surface rust and verdigris)
