Three Congolese Daggers
Mangbetu, Ngbandi And Nkutshu, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
The first with leaf-shaped double-edged blade with shallow medial ridge along each side and incised maker's mark on one side at the forte, ivory grip of circular section rising to a flat disc-shaped pommel, and short shouldered quillons with a square projection between on both sides; the second with flat slightly hollowed double-edge blade widening to a triangular point, punched with a medial line of dots and pierced with a hole, pierced ricasso with punched and incised borders, and wooden grip of circular section entirely bound with copper ribbon twisted beneath the flared pommel; the last with spear-shaped head with medial ridge along each side and two pointed side-lugs, and waisted wooden grip (pommel chipped) bound with copper ribbon (3)
