An Austrian 18-Bore Flintlock Sporting Rifle

With earlier Turkish four-stage twist sighted barrel of part hog's back and polygonal section, each section divided by pairs of inlaid silver lines, moulded muzzle en suite, and rifled with seven grooves, the polygonal section inlaid with a line of silver flower-heads at each end and with deep barrelsmith's mark (lining missing), the breech indistinctly chiselled with a crowned 'C', brass-lined touch-hole, tang with grooved leaf-shaped back-sight, flat bevelled lock (cock an old replacement, action defective) engraved with a staghunting scene, moulded figured full stock (fore-end and butt repaired) carved in low relief with foliage behind the rear ramrod-pipe, barrel tang and on each side of the cheek-piece, brass mounts comprising shaped side-plate pierced and engraved with grotesque animals and foliage centred on a bearded male head, plain butt-plate and trigger-guard, the latter with foliate finial (repaired), horn fore-end cap, baluster ramrod-pipes, sling loops, and associated horn-tipped ramrod
