The First Circa 1855, The Second Dated 1858
The first with browned barrel of oval bore, engraved 'Charles Lancaster's Patent' at the breech, and retained by two blued barrel bands, calibrated folding adjustable back-sight, plain tang and stamped 'Lancaster's Patent' on the barrel flat, border engraved flat lock engraved en suite with the breech, figured full stock, regulation brass mounts, sling loops, and original steel ramrod (steel parts with light surface rust), London proof marks; the second of regulation pattern, dated lock (action defective) with 'Tower' and 'VR' crowned on the tail, stock stamped 'Barnett' along the bottom of the butt, regulation brass mounts, and original steel ramrod (some wear overall, steel parts rusted and pitted), Ordnance view and proof marks (2)
