A Belgian Target Crossbow
19th Century
Of characteristic form, with adjustable slender steel bow with twisted wire string and brass retaining mounts, adjustable brass and steel fore-sight, highly figured tiller tapering towards each end and with swept rounded rest, bolt channel with hinged brass string release hook carrying the back-sight, scrolled brass trigger-guard, set trigger, and large pineapple finial painted gold; together with a steel gaffle with turned swelling handle, and a steel-tipped wooden bolt with remains of feather flights (3)
