Circa 1792
Of cream silk, embroidered in gilt spangles with three fleur-de-lys within a circular riband, the Order of the Holy Spirit suspended beneath, the regimental titles above, the borders with a fringe of gilt bullion (silk frayed overall and conserved with cross-stitching)
104 cm. high x 106 cm. wide (framed and glazed)

Footnotes

  • The emigré corps of the Prince de Condé was formed in 1792 and placed in an Austrian Division under the command of Prince Esterhazy. The Corps was reformed in 1793 and fought in the campaigns of 1793-4 under the command of the Austrian Count Wurmser. In 1795 it received English subsidies and placed under the orders of various German princes, and subsequently in the Austrian Army taking part in the battle of Bibrach on 2 October 1796, before entering Russian service in 1797 and seeing action at the battle of Constance on 7 October 1799. The corps finally passed back into Austrian service in 1800. Following the Peace of Lunerville the corps was disbanded by order of the British government, and the surviving emigrés returned to France
