An East European Sabre (Karabella) In 17th/18th Century Style
With curved fullered blade (patinated) cut with three narrow fullers for most of its length along the back on each side, the forte on both sides etched with a Pandour on horseback between a panel of scrollwork against a hatched ground and a spray of foliage, the back of the blade etched with running foliage, the hilt with silver quillon-block comprising pointed langets and tapering quillons with button terminals, engraved on each side with a symmetrical design of foliage against a finely punched ground, grip-strap en suite, and beaked dark horn grips carved with pairs of chevrons in low relief and retained by three transverse pins with silver rosette-shaped washers, in its wooden scabbard covered in black leather (some damage) with shaped silver locket, chape and suspension mounts cast and chased in low relief with foliate designs en suite with the quillon-block, the suspension mounts each with a suspension ring
