A Rare Iranian Mace Head
Seljuk, 12th Century
Of copper alloy, tubular in form and deeply fluted to form eight flanges, each flange decorated with small punched circles along its outer edge, domed finial finely engraved with a bird centred on a kufic inscription against a hatched ground, and moulded circular socket with repeated inscription 'al-Izz' in thulth script against scrolling foliage on a hatched ground
13.5 cm. high
