A Persian Jambiya With Enamelled Decoration
Qajar, 19th Century
With slightly curved sharply tapering double-edged blade cut with shallow rounded fullers forming a medial ridge over most of its length on both sides, the forte on each side with long panels of gold-damascened pseudo kufic inscriptions, waisted copper hilt of rounded section polychrome enamelled with oval female portrait medallions and birds, all in gilt frames and against a blue enamel ground highlighted with gilt foliage, the pommel with a male portrait medallion en suite, the base encircled with enamelled poetic verses in nastaliq script in praise of the figures depicted in the portrait medallions, in original scabbard decorated en suite, the main medallion on one side labelled 'Shahrazad' in nastaliq script (some damage and restorations overall, finial detached)
