A Fine Cased Bohemian 12-Bore D.B. Pin-Fire Sporting Gun For Shot And Ball

With browned sighted barrels of unusual twist damascus pattern signed in full along the rib, long border engraved case-hardened tang with vacant silver escutcheon, signed case-hardened back-action locks, engraved with mallard in a landscape on the left, and with woodcock in a landscape on the right, foliate scroll engraved hammers, border engraved case-hardened action decorated with scrolling foliage and a gundog in a landscape within an oval on one side, and with a blackcock in a landscape within an oval on the other, varnished figured butt and detachable fore-end, the former with chequered grip and cheek-piece, case-hardened mounts engraved en suite and including trigger-guard with forward scroll and scrolled dark horn tang, dark horn under-lever with chequered rounded tip, sling loops, and in fine condition retaining nearly all its original finish: in original lined and fitted oak case with full accessories comprising reloading tools, wad punch, ramrod and iron bullet mould, the interior of the lid with gilt maker's details, the exterior with vacant brass escutcheon, St. Etienne proof

  • Anton Vincent Lebeda was among the leading gunmakers of his day and was appointed Hofbüchsenmacher in 1852. He is recorded as having made twelve guns, six double rifles and three single rifles for the Emperor Franz Josef I and is the maker of the exceptional cased pair of royal percussion target pistols (probably his masterpiece) sold at Christie's London, Antique Arms And Armour, 29 October 1986, lot 157
