Deccani, 17th Century
Of iron, with domed skull of numerous plates riveted together, the exterior reinforced by four straps each tapering up to the domed top mount, the latter with a border of pierced trefoils and surmounted by a faceted bud-shaped finial, the rim encircled by a broad mount en suite and reinforced by a moulded band above a row of small holes for a camail (missing), two tubular plume-holders, and adjustable nasal with characteristic finials acting against a spring and retained by a ring-catch on a riveted mount, and retaining traces of gold-damascened foliage (some wear and rust patination overall)
