Lady Diana Beauclerk (wife of Dr. Johnson's friend, Topham Beauclerk) was an amateur artist and daughter of the third Duke of Marlborough. Horace Walpole was a great admirer of her work and he owned a number of Wedgewood pieces decorated with her designs, as well as a cabinet-on-stand applied with her framed drawings. So enthusiastic was he towards the 'designs of lady Diana Beauclerc (sic)' that he listed her Wedgewood flower tubs among the 'List of Principal Curiosities' in his collection at Strawberry Hill.
