Auction Notices
- Please note the title should read 'The Wandering Jew'.
In 1927, Mr Anthony Prinsep had requested Orpen to produce an illustration for the programme of the production 'The Wandering Jew' in aid of King George's Pension Fund for Actors and Actresses at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
Orpen was unhappy with his designs and asked Prinsep to return the originals (see Orpen's annotated sketch on the subject, lot 51 in Bonhams sale, 28/11/2006). However it seems his request was in vain and the current lot was reproduced in the Theatre Royal Programme dated 2nd May 1927.
