    The painting is accompanied by a letter from the artist dated 25 June (19)74 on headed paper of The Royal College of Art, where the artist states that he believes he painted the picture in 1946 and gave it to his mother. The painting was given by the artist's mother in thanks for medical or personal care. When the artist painted the picture he was staying at 'The Lea' the wartime home of The Warburg Insititute.
