2002 Bimota 1,000cc SB8R
Registration no. DY02 EZA
Frame no. ZESSB8R00XR000152
In its day the last word in Italian superbike exotica, the Bimota SB8R used the Suzuki TL1000R v-twin engine, which was installed in the Rimini firm's trademark aluminium beam frame. Lashings of carbon fibre, including the rear part of the frame, meant that the SB8R weighed some 20kg less than the donor Suzuki, while with larger throttle bodies, a bigger airbox and an Arrow exhaust system it was more powerful by some 10bhp. Intent on shifting the weight bias towards the front, Bimota moved the Suzuki motor forwards and brought the shock absorber and battery as close to the centre as possible. The result was a relatively short wheelbase and steering geometry on the radical side for a v-twin. Top quality Paioli USD forks, an Öhlins shock absorber and Brembo Gold Line brakes kept everything under control. The SB8R was intended to take on Ducati in the World Superbike Championship but managed but a single victory, courtesy of Australian maverick, Anthony Gobert, who won in the wet at Phillip Island in 2000.

This SB8R was purchased new from DK Motorcycles in 2002 and last taxed for the road to 31.10.06. Representing an exciting opportunity to acquire one of Bimota's most coveted limited edition superbikes, the machine is offered with warranty/service book (one stamp); owner's and instruction manuals; various magazine articles, road test reprints and photographs; and Swansea V5 document.
