c.1998 'Harley-Davidson' 1,340cc Custom Motorcycle
Registration no. R953 OPE
Frame no. PRO 0600777
Engine no. X0809
Since the mid-to-late 1940s, when returning US servicemen began to modify ex-military WLs in cut down, 'bobber' style, the Harley-Davidson has been the most popular motorcycle brand among motorcycle customisers, not just in the USA but worldwide. Around this movement has grown up a sizeable industry of parts and accessory suppliers able to provide anything from a tassel-fringed saddlebag to a complete engine. Constructed at date unknown, this unique Harley-style custom is powered by an S&S engine. Based in Viola, Wisconsin, S&S Cycle Inc is foremost among the Harley-style engine builders, its 'X-Wedge' v-twin having been chosen to power Morgan's new three-wheeler. The maker of the frame is not known but the serial number may well indicate that was produced by Paughco, another big name in the world of motorcycle customisation. 'R953 OPE' was first registered in 1998 as a Harley-Davidson but it should be noted that the VIN number listed on the accompanying Swansea V5C registration document does not have H-D's characteristic 17 digits. Offered for sale by the lady owner, the machine is described as in generally excellent condition and comes with sundry invoices, current MoT/tax and the aforementioned Swansea V5C.
