1925 New Imperial 250cc Sports
Registration no. DD 5523
Frame no. 46650
Engine no. FE19856/D
New Imperial commenced series production of motorcycles in 1910 and by 1913 was contesting the Isle of Man TT races. Island success eluded the marque until 1921 when a JAP-engined New Imperial won the 250 trophy for lightweight machines entered in the Junior TT. New recruit Bert Le Vack came close to victory in the Junior event the following year and finished second in the Lightweight race in 1923. This was followed by the Twemlow brothers' 1924 Junior/Lightweight TT double - Ken winning the former, Eddie the latter - and Eddie's repeated Lightweight victory in 1925, thus confirming New Imperial as one of the dominant forces in 250-class racing in the Vintage years. New Imperial had switched from JAP to engines of its own manufacture by the decade's end, and although the 1930s brought fewer success in the Isle of Man TT, Bob Foster's 1936 Lightweight TT win was notable as the last achieved by a British-made machine. Well documented in many publications, this Vintage-era New Imperial was in its original 350cc deluxe touring model configuration prior to restoration in sports style between 2008 and 2010. The engine currently fitted is an overhead-valve 250cc JAP of similar period (the original 350cc engine is included in the sale). We are advised that the 'New Imp' rides beautifully and is extremely quick for a motorcycle of its period – it certainly looks the part. The machine is offered with sundry restoration invoices and an expired tax disc (1966).
