Formerly the property of Sir Ralph Richardson, 3,500 miles from new 1976 BMW 750cc R75/7
Registration no. SLA 506R
Frame no. 6020127
Engine no. 6020127
Replacements for the BMW '/5' series, the '/6' series arrived in October 1973. The newcomers were more sportily styled than the outgoing range, boasting new side-panels and silencers, and totally restyled controls and instruments. Like their predecessors, the three '/6' models shared an identical stroke; the 500cc model though, had been dropped, while at the top of the range was a new 900cc superbike: the R90S. After three years the '/6' line-up was replaced in the autumn of 1976 by the '/7'. The R90S fuel tank shape (adopted across the range) and redesigned rocker covers were distinguishing features, while at the top of the range, 980cc R100 models replaced the '90' series.
This particular R75/7 was first owned by the eminent stage and screen actor, the late Sir Ralph Richardson, who was also a noted motorcycle enthusiast and BMW devotee. A copy of the original V5 registration document bearing his name is on file. This 'time warp' machine has covered only 3,500 miles from new and re-commissioning it for the road should not be too arduous a task as it has been started regularly while in storage. Included in the sale is a pair of Hepco & Becker panniers for the fitted frames and a pair of genuine BMW rocker covers in earlier style. The machine is offered with Swansea V5 document.
