A ruby and diamond necklace and earring suite, circa 1770
The necklace designed as a highly stylised openwork band of floral and foliate motifs, set throughout with vari-cut diamonds and rubies, suspending an esclavage motif, accompanied by a pair of similarly-set girandole earrings, all stones in foiled closed-back silver settings, convertible to a tiara, later frame supplied, earring length 6.5cm, fitted case (2)

  • This is a rare example of an esclavage which was one of the most elaborate forms of 18th century necklace whereby the collar suspended festoons as well as a central pendant or pendants.
