Accompanying this vase is a hand-written letter and receipt detailing the circumstances of the presentation. Col. Davis, stationed in Japan until 1948, authorized the use of a military bulldozer to be used by the Suzuki construction company for the construction of a public school. On his departure from Japan, Col. Davis was given this vase as a token of the company's appreciation.
