  Although Chughtai is primarily lauded for his considerable contributions as a painter, his mastery of the art of printmaking is also highly celebrated. The artist likely began to produce etchings around 1932 when he commenced his studies under private tutelage in London. He later continued to develop his skills as a printmaker in London during his time as a student at the School of Photo Engraving in 1937. Upon returning home to Pakistan, Chughtai turned his concentration towards his prints by setting up his own press. It was here that he generated his extensive output of etchings and aquatints, establishing a reputation as a superior printmaker by both eastern and western standards.
